Hi, Everyone!

What an honor it’s been to work with the Mission Makeover contestants! The process has been deeply meaningful to all of us, and I’m so grateful that I got to be a part of this amazing journey.

In order to best help the women on the show…and all of our viewers…I tapped into two different parts of myself: The Behavioral Therapist part, of course (that is paramount), and, also, the personal part. I’m a life coach sure, but, I also know first-hand what it’s like to battle and overcome all sorts of demons. My approach to helping, therefore, is more than clinical… I’ve been there. So, basically, I know what works from both scientific and personal perspectives.

If I had to boil my counseling strategy down to one sentence it would be this: If you want to be healthier in one or many aspects of your life, your thoughts, your self-talk needs to be healthy. As you’ll see, the strategies I offer, the techniques I impart, all come back to helping people control the way they think–about each other, food, exercise, and themselves. And this clear thinking enhances moods and enables smart decision-making. Pay attention because these skills will work for you, too! And my goal, in addition to helping the participants on the show, is to touch as many other people as possible.

As a practicing therapist with years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families–and as someone who herself has struggled with everything from weight and image issues to family strife and loss–one thing is clear: A healthy outlook can make the impossible, possible. My techniques can turn short-term shifts of thinking into permanent change.

I am so excited to share my empathy, perspective, experience, and knowledge with all of you, and invite you to follow my blog here and on my website at www.therapisttogo.net

Here’s to deep cleansing breaths and great season,

Dr. Jessica
