For seven years, Julie Moran was the primary substitute anchor, weekend anchor, and senior correspondent for the #1 magazine in syndication, “Entertainment Tonight”, produced by Paramount Domestic Television.
In addition to her hosting duties, Moran covered a signature weekly segment “ET One to One with Julie Moran”, which featured high-profile celebrity interviews and exclusive access to television and film sets.
Moran’s entertainment expertise led her to co-hosting the highly-rated and prestigious Academy Awards pre-show for ABC in 2001.
Moran joined “Entertainment Tonight” on May 5, 1994 at its New York bureau as the New York anchor and correspondent. That year she was also named one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People”. She moved to “ET’s” Los Angeles headquarters to work for the program in 1995.
Prior to “Entertainment Tonight”, Moran anchored the Emmy award-winning “ABC’s Wide World of Sports.” She was the first woman to host the show in the program’s 35-year history, and only the third host ever of the highly-rated weekly program, following legendary sportscasters Jim McKay and Frank Gifford. After joining “Entertainment Tonight” in 1994, Moran continued to work with “ABC’s Wide World of Sports”, and she used her sports reporting expertise to head “ET’s” coverage of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
Born in Thomasville, GA, Moran won the title of America’s Junior Miss in 1980, juggling pageant responsibilities along with her studies at the University of Georgia. Through her title, she earned an internship at the CBS affiliate WCTV-TV in Tallahassee, FL, where she filed reports on UGA football games. Upon graduating Magna Cum Laude with a journalism degree, Moran landed her first reporting job in Los Angeles for ESPN’s “Sports Focus”.
For the next three years, Moran co-hosted “Movie Time”, the channel that eventually evolved into E! Entertainment Television, with Greg Kinnear. Afterward, she moved to New York to co-host NBC Sports’ popular weekly magazine, “NBA Inside Stuff”. A year later, ABC Sports hired her, assigning her to cover such events as the 1991 Pan American Games from Havana, Cuba, the National Figure Skating Championships and the World Track and Field Championships, and also handling “Wide World’s” coverage of the World Gymnastics Championship. For two years, she teamed with Brent Musburger as a sideline reporter for the network’s college football and basketball games.
After leaving “Entertainment Tonight”, Moran took time off to have her second daughter, and chose projects, which enabled her to spend time with both girls. She created, produced, and hosted the weekly series, “The Insider’s List With Julie Moran”, airing on the Fine Living Network. Moran co-hosted the 2002 Miss America Pageant with Wayne Brady. In 2002, 2003, and 2004, Moran hosted the pre-show at the Kodak Theatre for the AFI Life Achievement Awards, honoring Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, and Meryl Streep respectively.
Moran, her husband, actor Rob Moran, and their two daughters live in Los Angeles.
